Where:
Gosford Way, Felixstowe
Value:
£48,000
Completed:
Summer 2019

The new play area at Gosford Way consisted of a large range and variety of equipment to allow all ages and abilities to play together. Following the brief, Matta and the successful play company incorporated shaded blue and green Play Matta tiles into the design, to represent the land and sea of this coastal location.

Two different thickness of shock pad were needed to meet the critical fall height requirements of the equipment, Matta worked with the project officers from Norse and HAGS to ensure the sub-base was adjusted to create a seamless, level finish to the safer surface. The opening event was a huge success and the feedback was fantastic.

Lewes District Council went straight to Matta Products, for the grass matting safety surfacing, as years of experience had proved this to be the best solution for the park. During the build, the site conditions caused the design for a bark path to be changed, as the proposed area was lying wet. Pathway Matta was chosen as a more appropriate option as it sits firmly on the surface and has an anti-slip finish to prevent accidents occurring.

Pathway Matta was fitted by Matta Product’s professional, friendly team underneath the newly installed climbing wall and toddler unit. For all other recreational areas, Lewes District Council opted for Safety Matta, a grass mat style surface. The mats were chosen as they enable grass to grow through, creating a greener, more aesthetically pleasing area.

Christopher Bibb, Project Manager for the Big Parks Project, said: “Lewes District Council has been using Matta Products as our preferred grass mat safety surface for a number of years. It is the market leader and offers the best long term safety solution.

"The initial investment quickly pays for itself with the surety that it has been laid professionally and will remain a functional safety surface with little or no maintenance well into the future.”

The key benefits are:

No Costly Groundwork
Safety Improved
No wastage costs
Free Draining
Play Values substantially increased
10 Year Guarantee

It was a pleasure to work on this project, from conception through to completion, all parties involved worked together to ensure that the vision was delivered. This particular scheme called for an extensive area of Matta tiles to form a continuous play space that would have little ongoing maintenance requirement.

The attention to detail and efforts made by everyone, from the initial design through to laying the final tiles, means we have ended up with a great facility.
